Flag of Europe Mandatory from 2027

Turn the battery passport from a challenge into your competitive advantage!

From February 2027, the battery passport will become mandatory in the EU. The goal of EU Regulation 2023/1542 is to create a uniform legal framework that takes into account all phases of a battery's life cycle – from manufacturing to recycling.

For battery manufacturers, this means: recording data seamlessly, guaranteeing traceability, and creating transparency. With KURZ Digital Solutions, you have the ideal partner at your side. We offer an all-in-one solution that combines digital innovation with physical security components – individually adaptable to your requirements.

Battery Passport FAQ

The battery passport is a digital product passport system that will become mandatory for batteries sold in the EU from 2027. It documents the origin, composition, and life cycle of the battery – for greater transparency and sustainability.

According to Article 77(1) of the EU Battery Regulation, the battery passport will be mandatory for the following battery categories from 2027 onward:

  • Electric vehicle batteries (EV batteries)
  • Batteries for light means of transport (LMT), e.g. e-bikes and e-scooters
  • Industrial batteries with a capacity of over 2 kWh, e.g. for industrial applications, communication infrastructure, or energy storage

The Battery Pass Consortium has divided the data attributes into seven content groups along the battery's life cycle:

  1. General battery and manufacturer information
  2. Compliance, labels, certifications
  3. Carbon footprint of the battery
  4. Due diligence in the supply chain
  5. Battery materials and composition
  6. Circular economy and resource efficiency
  7. Performance and service life

The battery passport improves the traceability of batteries and ensures compliance with EU regulations. It is a key instrument for environmental protection and the circular economy.
